Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is set to have several nude scenes in the upcoming film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final chapter in British author J.K. Rowling’s hugely popular series of children’s books and whose first part is due to be released on November 2010 and the second on July 2011.
Deathly Hallows director David Yates, who was also at the helm of the last two films about the famous boy wizard (2007’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and this year’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince), told the Spanish Web site La Vibra, that the young actor’s nudity will involve “a fascinating scene in which Harry and Ron are trying to destroy a Horcrux (a magical artifact created by Harry’s nemesis Voldemort to contain part of his soul). It tries to defend itself and creates an image of Voldemort’s soul that has a series of images where Harry and Hermione are kissing and embracing”. By extension, this would mean that Emma Watson, the actress who plays Hermione Granger, will also be appearing nude. Yates added that there will be “another scene in King’s Cross Station where Harry almost dies. In that scene he will also be naked”.
Radcliffe is not new to doing nude scenes. It should be noted that he famously performed completely naked in front of a live audience, playing the lead in the 2007 revival of Equus, the 1973 play by Peter Shaffer. But are moviegoers ready to see him in the buff in a movie based on a children’s novel?
